Need air conditioning in a bedroom or living room?

A bedroom that stays too hot at night or a living room that overheats in the afternoon needs a system suited to that space. Start with which rooms need cooling or heating and when you use them. You do not need to choose a model before getting in touch.

Call or WhatsApp the independent specialist directly. Share your Algarve town and the rooms involved. Discuss the assessment and equipment, then agree the installation scope, price and appointment before booking.

What size air conditioner do I need?

Floor area, ceiling height, windows, afternoon sun and insulation all affect the capacity a room needs. Include winter heating and whether several rooms will run at once. A top-floor bedroom and a shaded ground-floor room may need different systems even when their dimensions match.

A unit that is too small can struggle; simply choosing the largest is not the answer either. Daikin’s sizing guidance explains the factors behind a room-by-room calculation.

Single-split or multi-split?

A single-split pairs one indoor unit with one outdoor unit. A multi-split connects several compatible indoor units to a shared outdoor unit.

  • One room: an independent single split may be all that is needed.
  • Several rooms: compare fewer outdoor units with the capacity needed when rooms run together.
  • Separate parts of a property: individual systems can simplify pipe routes and leave other rooms working during a repair.
  • More rooms later: expansion depends on the exact outdoor unit and approved equipment combinations.

A living-room unit should not be relied on to cool bedrooms with closed doors.

Positions, pipework and drainage

The indoor unit should spread air through the room without blowing straight across a bed or desk. Outdoors, the equipment needs secure mounting, the manufacturer’s airflow clearances and safe service access. A tight enclosure can restrict airflow.

Pipes, cables and drainage need a suitable route. Where the water collected during cooling cannot drain by gravity, a pump may be needed, adding maintenance and a possible source of noise.

Discuss coastal exposure, nearby windows, building or condominium requirements and the electrical supply before fitting. In a renovation, agree concealed routes before plastering and decorating. Our Lagoa guide covers coordinating AC with open walls and ceilings. If you are replacing existing equipment, check which parts of the installation can be retained.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

Equipment, pipe lengths, access and electrical work all affect the total. Ask for a written price that identifies:

  • The exact indoor and outdoor models and capacities
  • Pipework, trunking, brackets, drainage and any pump
  • Electrical work, labour and access equipment
  • Removal of waste and repairs to disturbed finishes
  • Testing, handover, taxes, exclusions and warranty terms

Compare the efficiency and sound figures for the specified equipment. SEER describes seasonal cooling performance and SCOP describes seasonal heating performance. The EU energy-label guide explains these ratings. Labelled consumption helps compare models; it is not a forecast of your electricity bill.

Testing and handover

Commissioning checks that the installed system is ready to use. Equipment-specific refrigerant and electrical work, drainage checks and operating tests belong with qualified professionals.

At handover, ask how to use cooling, heating, timers and airflow controls, and how to care for accessible filters safely. Keep the model details, manuals, commissioning record, warranty terms and invoice. The maintenance schedule should follow the exact equipment and its use.

Air conditioning installation questions

Can photos tell you which system I need?

Photos and approximate dimensions are useful starting points. They cannot establish hidden wiring, wall construction or the full drainage route. Those details need checking before the final equipment and installation price are settled.

Can air conditioning heat the property in winter?

A reversible system can provide heating as well as cooling. Its heating capacity, operating range and controls need to suit the rooms and the way you use them. Include winter use when choosing the equipment.

Is installation possible in an apartment?

The practical questions are where the outdoor unit can go, how the pipes and drain will reach it, and what access is available. Shared walls, roofs and façades may also involve building or condominium requirements. Resolve these before work starts.

Equipment guidance

Daikin’s positioning guide and installer reference guide (PDF) explain technical considerations. The instructions for the equipment being installed take priority.
