Is your air conditioning due for a service?
For one unit or several, start with how often the equipment runs, when it was last serviced and whether anything has changed. Routine care addresses cleaning and inspection needs; a unit that is leaking, tripping or failing to cool may need fault diagnosis first.
Call or WhatsApp the independent specialist with your town and number of units. Agree the work included, price, access and appointment directly.
What does an air conditioning service include?
The scope depends on the equipment and condition. Ask which of these checks and cleaning tasks are included in the proposed price:
- Filters and airflow: dirt buildup, cleaning and obstructions
- Drainage: the water collected during cooling and whether it drains correctly
- Operation: performance, controls and displayed errors
- Outdoor condition: accessible supports, insulation and clearances
- Findings: the units checked, work completed and issues left to resolve
Confirm separately any deep cleaning, parts, difficult access or fault assessment. Do not assume these are included in a routine service price.
Can I clean the air conditioning filters myself?
Follow your operating manual for user-accessible filters and making the equipment safe before cleaning. Some filters are washable; others need a different method or replacement. Let washable filters dry as directed, and avoid unsafe climbing.
Keep curtains and furniture clear of indoor openings and loose belongings away from outdoor equipment. Daikin’s care guidance explains why airflow and filter care matter.
Do not spray household chemicals into the unit, pressure-wash coils, put tools into drains or open service compartments. Internal cleaning, electrical inspection and refrigerant work belong with qualified technicians.
Plan around summer, winter and guest arrivals
Book with time to deal with anything an inspection uncovers. The day before guests arrive leaves little room for parts or another visit. Make remote controls available and arrange access to each indoor and outdoor unit.
A system used for heating as well as cooling needs a care schedule that reflects both seasons. Dust, pets, building work and outdoor exposure can affect cleaning needs. After a long period without use, follow the model’s return-to-service instructions rather than assuming it is ready.
Keep the service record useful
For several units, record the room, model, connected outdoor unit and last service date. After a visit, keep the completed work, parts used and outstanding findings with the manuals and warranty terms.
If you are away, agree who receives the findings and who can approve extra work. The Vilamoura guide covers service records shared between owners, managers and keyholders. Arrange keys securely; do not put access codes in a general enquiry. Guest instructions only need to cover the controls and how to report a problem.
When a service is not the right first step
Water indoors, persistent noise, error messages or poor cooling should be described when enquiring. Repeated tripping, smoke or a burning smell mean stop using the unit and follow the repair safety advice.
Maintenance cannot increase capacity or resolve every fault. If the system no longer suits the room, compare repair with replacement. Adding cooling to more rooms is an installation decision.
Air conditioning maintenance questions
How often should air conditioning be serviced?
The interval depends on the model, its use and the conditions around it. Follow the manual and warranty requirements, with a professional schedule that reflects heavy use, dust and outdoor exposure. User-accessible filters may need attention more often than the professional service.
Does a self-cleaning function replace servicing?
No single feature covers every maintenance task. A filter-cleaning or drying function does not establish that the drains, outdoor components or other internal surfaces have been checked. The model’s remaining care instructions still apply.
Does a service need a refrigerant top-up?
Refrigerant is not something to replenish automatically at each service. If a loss is suspected, it needs investigation by a qualified technician. Adding refrigerant should have a clear technical reason, not be a routine extra.
